Remove annoying buttons covering up grid!
It has been a few months since I last used Chordify, and the first change I notice is that the current version has two buttons in the top left of the grid saying "chord diagrams" and "chord overview". I recall these button were previously at the top (labelled "diagrams" and "overview"), above the row of buttons above the grid.
In their new location, these buttons move down over the grid when you progress through the song. The problem is that it is now impossible to click not only on the five boxes in the top left of the grid that where two new buttons are located, but also on the entire top row of the grid (that is, the top row displayed on your screen). If you do try to click anywhere on the top row of the grid, there is no response.
This is extremely annoying and inconvenient! The way I use Chordify, I frequently want to revert to an earlier point in the song and it is instinctive to click on the top row of the grid. So I am being constantly frustrated.
Typically on my laptop the grid is seven rows deep, so the new buttons have reduced the useable area by 14%. In fact it can be as much as 28%, because when those buttons are located on the intersection between two rows (as they often will be as you play through the song), the top TWO rows of the grid are rendered unusable!
Hard to understand why anyone thought this would be a good idea. Even without the added inconvenience of the two new buttons, the grid takes up less than half my screen. Meanwhile, there is plenty of space at both the top and the side which goes unused most of the time. The larger the usable area of the grid that is displayed in the screen, the easier it is for the user to navigate to different points in the song.
There are so many ways that this problem could be fixed. First of all, there is absolutely no logical reason why these new buttons have to move down as you progress through the song. Why can they not simply stay fixed above the grid?
Secondly, if you insist on placing these buttons in the top corner of the grid, then why has this been implemented in a way that makes it impossible to click not only on the grid boxes in the corner, but on the entire top row (or even the top two rows) of the grid? This is extremely clumsy and a major backward step in the convenience of the interface.
Another alternative would be to make it possible for the user to drag those new buttons over to the side or to the top, or to make them invisible (so that they stop interfering with the grid).
Finally, I do not understand what was wrong with the previous interface, with the "diagram" and "overview" buttons located above the row of buttons across the top. So yet another solution to the problem would be to enable the user to choose which interface, the old one or the new one, they prefer.
