preventing a track from restarting at beginning every time I pause during an arrangement to make adjustments.

Let's say I'm mapping out a song for arrangement's sake, and I need to pause during the bridge to document specifics before moving on to the next section. If I stop for any reason before the ending, the song defaults back to the beginning. That is annoying because I have to listen through sections already covered until I arrive back to where I stopped before continuing to the chor outro, for example. Question? Is there a way to prevent the song from restarting at the beginning and pick up where I left off? Sure would save me valuable time. Appreciate the advice
